Davis Christmas Tree Stand Story

It came into being by accident. In the early 1980's my wife told me to get a Christmas tree stand for the Christmas tree she had just brought home. At the time, there were no stands to be found except the three legged three screw variety. You know the type. The idea struck me, "why not make one myself." There were plenty of scrap pieces of angle iron lying around in my metal shop, so I made one and to my surprise, it worked like a charm except it was difficult to install. It had a triangular base made of one inch angle iron and three angle iron support bars. It was built on the same principal as the round base tree stand made of round bar being sold today. The concept is simple but to make the stand easy to use is not so simple. The people who saw the first stand laughed, but when they saw a demonstration of how it worked, they wanted one. I called it a Davis Christmas Tree Stand.

Many stands were made using the trial and error method trying to perfect the perfect Christmas tree stand. It was discovered that the round base made of round steel bar worked best.

Dear Mr. Davis,

First, let me tell you how impressed I am with your Christmas tree stands!! I have 3 of them. I bought my first years and years ago in Corvallis OR. when you were still in Eugene. I purchased one for my office a few years back and it had the current design you are using with the crank screw as part of it. I was sorry to see this change. You know how thick and beautiful the Oregon Trees are, and I always have to "prune" limbs just to crank the screw in! I wish I could get more like my old model.

But the real reason for my e-mail is an odd request. You may think me a bit forward. For being a neighbor (Washington & Oregon) I thought you might be able to help me. Here's the problem. I have a daughter getting married and having a reception on the 28th of December, just a couple of days after Christmas. I have been asked to put up 25 Christmas Trees for decorations for the reception! It was no problem until the fire department told me that even for the 3 to 4 hours they were standing they would have to be in water. I have designed and redesigned a couple of wood stands to make for that day. Then I got out your Christmas Tree stand for my own tree. Up in 30 seconds!! So much saved time and energy. Then I thought: I wonder if I could get my hands on 25 of these wonderful stands for the reception. I was wondering if you knew of anyone still in the Eugene area that would have any. At this point I would even be willing to travel north to Washington to get some. If they were the old style where a nail is used I would even being willing to buy them. I truly believe that I wouldn't have any problems reselling them to family and friends. I am that impressed with them. I know this is a shot in the dark. But like I teach my kids, you will never know until you try.

Thank you for your time and thought

Merry Christmas

David N. Bird

Dear Mr. Davis,

My apologies for not getting back to you. Everything has been so hectic the past two weeks. After we got back from the wedding in Idaho on Dec 23 we had one day to prepare for Christmas. Then after Christmas while collecting the trees for the reception I found a person who sells his Christmas Trees out of "Denison's" here in Corvallis. He has 200 of your stands, and had over twenty of the old style stands he uses to build a fence around his tree lot. He let me use those for the reception. So all went wonderful for the reception. I tell everyone about your willingness to help, and more so, tell everyone they need a Davis Christmas Tree stand for Christmas! I even suggest that it would make for a great present.

Thank you for your willingness to assist.

David N.Bird

Hi, John.

I went to look at the website for the Davis Tree Stand. Nice site. Yes, I bought my Davis Tree Stand several years ago at Tom's Trees. I was sold the minute it was demonstrated. I wouldn't have any other stand. Anyone who doesn't have the Davis Tree Stand will have a very hectic time setting up one of those three legged, tighten three screws to make it straight and hold it, topsy turvy fall over tree stands which is a total waste of money. One certainly would not go wrong with the Davis Tree Stand. I never worry about my tree falling over. It's great!

Cheryl
